Left: This poster is inside our downstairs collection room. I had never seen this before so I took a picture so I could remember to go back to it and look up these bugs. Middle: The upstairs collection room is separated into two parts. When you first walk in you see the education departments hands on items which is what you are seeing in this photo. I was in there today poking around at everything they had. Right: This image is of the downstairs collection; there is a lot going on in there and a tad bit messy.
Very fun day for me at the museum. It started like it normally does, very quiet with an iced coffee in hand. The curator is out of town for two weeks so I was greeted by Maggie who is the education coordinator. I grabbed her keys and headed straight to the locked collections room upstairs, this is where my box of documents is located. I set up my work station like I normally do turned on my computer and pulled out the files I am currently working on.
Since it was only Maggie and I in the workspace this morning I had the opportunity to chat with her about her role, what she did for school and what her long-term goals were. Both her and the curator are about 10 years younger than I am and listening to them share their career goals and what makes them excited about museums makes me so excited for them, this could also be the “mom” in me.
I spent time in both the upstairs and downstairs collections today, I did this on my own, it was very peaceful and somewhat relaxing. Having the opportunity to be in this space to learn and experience new things has been such a pleasure.
