I spent some time today talking with the director and curator about everything the museum has going on this summer, and there is a lot. They have booths and activities planned for the Round Rock Pride event, the 7th Annual Swedish Midsommar event, American 250 in Williamson County, and a table at a Round Rock Express baseball game. I’ll personally be at Midsommar helping kids paint small wooden Swedish dolls, which I’m looking forward to.

On the intern/volunteer side of the day, I helped set up a last-minute volunteer at a workstation and walked her through how to use the scanner, how I preferred each document scanned and renamed, and how to organize the files so I can locate and upload them into PastPerfect quickly. She ended up getting through two large folders, which was a huge help. To put that in perspective, the box I’m currently working through has over 60 folders, each containing anywhere from 4 to 25 documents that all need to be scanned with full metadata included.

While she handled the scanning, I kept moving through another folder on my end, creating each archival record and inputting all the metadata. Having someone to split the workload with made the day feel a lot more productive, and it’s a good reminder of how much smoother this process goes with an extra set of hands.
